Baldface Lodge Snowcat
Nelson, British Columbia, British ColumbiaAt A GlanceBaldface is an exclusive snowcat skiing and snowboarding lodge where wilderness dreams come true.
Escorted by certified guides, guests experience untracked bowls, peaks, and trees in an area that receives an average seasonal snowfall of 42 feet.
Skiers and snowboarders can expect up to 18,000 vertical feet of deep powder turns each day, with the final run leading to the cozy high-alpine timber frame lodge. Situated at 6,750 feet above sea level, the lodge offers gourmet food, spectacular views, plush leather furniture, a cozy wood stove, massage therapy, goose down duvets, and plenty of space to stretch out and relax in after a day on the slopes.
The lodge is a quick 5-minute helicopter flight from the charming town of Nelson where quaint shops, fine restaurants, friendly pubs, and local ski areas round out the perfect vacation.
Hours of OperationBaldface operates from mid-December to mid-April. Although high season rates apply from mid-January to mid-March, some of our biggest snowfalls occur during the shoulder season — early January and late March.
Region/Mountain RangeEach year the snowfall is different and the conditions are unique, but one thing you can count on at Baldface is that we always find the best snow in the area. Our guides do everything they can to make sure that guests make fresh tracks wherever they go.
Each season, we continually open up new terrain and after an area has been deemed safe, guests enjoy the privilege of making first descents. On the memorable days, a group will find the perfect name for their first descent. This has provided many of the names to the runs we have now — Forever Trevor, Dad's Choice, and BB Bowl are just a few of these special runs.
GuidesAfter just one cat-skiing trip to Baldface, you'll know what it means to feel like you're a part of our family. Everybody says so!
Our attentive and enthusiastic staff is completely devoted not only to your safety, but also to ensuring that you have the time of your life. We aim to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrive until the time comes to bid farewell.
On the mountain on any given day, you will find a head chef, a pastry chef, a massage therapist, a hostess, a housekeeper, a powderslave, a bartender, a photographer, lead guides, tailgunners, snowcat drivers, and either Jim, Jeff, or Paula to ensure the refreshments are flowing and that everyone is happy.
Equipment/Heli/Cat:Many people ask us how snowcat skiing compares to heli-skiing. Above all, we find that snowcat skiing tends to be a safer, cheaper, and more social option than heli-skiing — while providing nearly 20,000 vertical feet of powder turns every day!
